Magnificent Rose

Painted on 11/28/2021

Roses are my favorite subject to paint. I am trying to get my rose to glow. I think I achieved it somewhat.
Will try better next time.
I mounted the watercolor paper on masonite first. Then drew and painted the Rose.
It is not varnished yet. But once I varnish it, the paining can be framed without glass.

Ashe - Focused

This little kitty visited us and it was such a character! Although she was only 6 weeks and only the size of my palm, she was not afraid of our dog, who is 6 year old !! It was so much fun to play with Ashe. She was focused on playing with the toy, which was above her. I took bunch of pictures and here is one of them realized as a painting.

Date of painting: 11/29/2020

Three Waterlilies - SOLD

My last painting for the year 2018!!
It was a year full of learning experiences and less number of paintings as compared to prior years. But I had fun learning to sketch and sculpting that I tried for the very first time.
My goal for the year 2019 is to consistently populate my online Etsy shop with new paintings - both in Watercolor and Oil.

Wishing you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year !!

Waterlily Reflections 2 - SOLD

This is my first post of the year 2018. Feeling quite a bit behind compared to previous years. But this year I took up the fitness challenge rather than painting challenge. So I am finding it challenging to balance the daily routine with good sleep, fitness and painting.
In December, I had painted a pink Waterlily and had several reference pictures, so felt the urge to paint another one with its little baby too.
It was fun to come up with all different shades of greens. The Pink really stands out among all those greens and blue!!

Spirit of Holidays - Poinsettia

Feeling Red... is all I can say, this turned out pretty interesting. I am considering to do a larger version of this painting eventually. I finished this in about 3 days on and off doing demo in my booth at Sawdust Art Festival, Winter fantasy 2017. I one point I was so much engrossed painting this that a lady had to call me few times to ask me pricing on my Greeting cards... Not a good situation while at the booth, but otherwise I was pretty watchful of people stopping by and was talking to them. Sometimes getting up and showing them rest of my work. Many people stopped by just to see the process and to ask questions. Below are some more pictures with me doing the painting as well.

Pink Waterlily Reflections - SOLD

Now this project had been on my list since very long... Its a small 6x6 inches, but could not start it...
Nowadays every weekend I am on my booth in Sawdust Art Festival. And one of the requirement is to either do demo in the both OR volunteer to teach an art class OR a mix of both. So I am teaching 1 watercolor class every weekend and rest of the time doing demo in my booth.
And guess what... for the demo in my booth, I picked this waterlily back again which was already sketched long back and waiting to be painted!!
I worked 3 days on and off to finish this painting between talking to the people coming in the booth and having a chat with my neighbor booth friends!!
Now 3 more weekends left for the Sawdust to finish, so I can take up couple more small projects I think..

30in30_Jan2017_Day16 An Orange Miracle - Plumeria

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”
― Albert Einstein

What do you believe? I think everything is a miracle - including the creation of this Orange Plumeria painting !! When I got started, it was a blank white paper and to be honest it was quite intimidating to think what will come out of it... Nevertheless, I put some pencil marks based on the photo reference I had of the Orange Plumeria. Then for planning the light and shadows, I put in my first color statements as light and dark colored brush strokes. By then, I was in the flow and was more confident on what colors I am choosing. I didn't finish the painting in one sitting, worked on it for at least three days, as and when I was able to set my time aside. But I had the painting in my mind's eye already, so it was not hard to make good progress each time I sat down for painting. Of course there were times that I kept working on a certain area, over and over, until I thought I would ruin the painting. But at that point, I miraculously stopped and worked on another part to get some overall progress. That's how the painting process is for me, some parts flow real smooth and on others I feel I am pulling my hair out.
So Yes, I do believe everything is a miracle, including this little orange gem !!

30in30_Jan2017_Day11 Pink Plumeria Duet

This is my third Plumeria painting in a row...and they have been singing for me... have been obsessed with this color and also have been trying out different colors for the dark shadow colors. In this one, I experimented with blue as a dark shadow color on the plumeria petals. Specially on the left side flower, notice that I used a hint of blue for each shadow on the petals. I loved how it adds a drama on the painting as a whole!!

Also see below progress shots of how I painted this one!!

Day 31 - 30 in 30 Challenge Jan 2015 - Looking back at 30 days

As I look back at this snapshot of 30 paintings, I extend many thanks to the Artist Leslie Saeta who hosted this challenge. There were 1483 artists around the world who participated in this challenge, which is really impressive!! Also really feel blessed and thankful for the support and appreciation I received from home, friends and family which helped me focus on this creation. Feeling really encouraged! This is the third time I participated in this challenge and I will do it again!! Love Love Love it!!

Day 30 - 30 in 30 Challenge Jan 2015 - Anticipation in Green

And... the Grand Finale is... Hungry for Pear!! My friend friend suggested Anticipation in Green!! Loved the new title!
I absolutely enjoyed this journey of 30 paintings and these 30 days have been the most productive! Feel very accomplished. The challenge in this painting is the background fabric is almost the same color as the pear and the knife - a shiny surface!! I used to think when I began painting few years ago ... How do you paint a metal surface without metallic paints? No more a puzzle for me, its possible!! Check it out:

Day 27 - 30 in 30 Challenge Jan 2015 - Apple medley with a Kiss

This is again Apple, but I have been wanting to try out this setup for a long time. The set up is inspired by artist Elena Katsyura (google her to look up her still life) - I love her paintings. The still life is based on objects reflecting back into a metallic surface (silver, copper, bronze etc). Looking at her paintings during 30 in 30, I badly wanted to try such reflecting objects. Can you guess what kind of bowl I might have used for my setup?

Day 24 - 30 in 30 Challenge Jan 2015 - Reflections - Jolly Rancher Gummies - 1

Yes Yes... I said I will do fruits and vegetables this month. But the other day in Walmart, I saw an attractive package with fruit pictures on it. I could not resist buying it for 30 in 30. Even if it is gummies, it is in the shape of fruits and vegetables - Works for me!!
To make it challenging, I kept these gummies on a glass for painting reflections. See which one you like.
BTW, I couldn't fit all 6 flavors in one 6x6 painting, so I decided to do a diptych. So next blog will be on the second set of fruits.

And did you notice the reflections on the cherry tomatoes, the blue cloth reflecting on it as well as the carrot and cucumber. Each C has the reflecting color from each other - love it!!

Day 22 - 30 in 30 Challenge Jan 2015 - Dancing Onion - SOLD

Today it was late for me to come to my studio after finishing the chores. I had almost given up, but thought I will paint half an hour or so and then do it the next day. I am glad I decided that, because once I got started, I did not realize it was almost 3 hours and I finished the painting including the documentation time!! So Happy dance for me along with the dancing onion.
