It is a tradition that after HeART of Orange County juried show ends, artists are invited to do demos on the closing day of the show. I was happy to be juried in and also to participate in Artist Demo. It is a great day to interact with other artists and watch their process of creating art. I chose a simple image of Aloe that I had bookmarked for painting long time back. Below is the final painting that came out! Greens were quite challenging. Not sure if you know but painting white in watercolor can be challenging. This is because actual white color is not used. The white that you see in the painting is the white surface of the paper. So its mostly the negative painting technique used for painting the flower itself. The Calla Lily was perfect to paint and I found plants in our neighborhood - awesome reference pictures!!</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><i>click on image to view larger </i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8WxZPlFgKTHn-3GAJXUgyNYD0MhiPTRciWLsr02Q8zQdSbKv5eprfJhnhml5tDYktdNrphLDlvWFs_NhTXwQJDOHtCmlnjW5YwtXOluHP2vjAw8S6L9tXk0QX5LfDwBpFq6yZUle7yRjV/s1274/YinYang_CallaLily_woBorder.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1274" data-original-width="1007" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8WxZPlFgKTHn-3GAJXUgyNYD0MhiPTRciWLsr02Q8zQdSbKv5eprfJhnhml5tDYktdNrphLDlvWFs_NhTXwQJDOHtCmlnjW5YwtXOluHP2vjAw8S6L9tXk0QX5LfDwBpFq6yZUle7yRjV/s320/YinYang_CallaLily_woBorder.jpg" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Yin Yang - Calla Lily, 8x10 inches, Watercolor on Arches 140 lbs Coldpress</div><div><br /></div><h3 style="text-align: left;"><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe;">Code# PK_20_007 </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe;">Available - <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/preranap?section_id=17919938" target="_blank">Click Here</a></span></div></h3><div>Find Original Oil Paintings, Original Watercolor Paintings, Fine art Prints and more on my Etsy Website here: </div><div>https://www.etsy.com/shop/preranap<br /></div>Prerana Kulkarnihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12080551866957867338noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-809241022746500062.post-80200158914823090562020-11-07T11:23:00.007-08:002020-11-07T11:23:59.349-08:00Ganesha Sculpture 2020<div>Ganesha Sculpture 2020 - Created 9/6/2020</div><div><br /></div><div>This is my yearly project using Air Dry Clay. Its called MCW and I bought it from Aardvark Clay & Supplies. I create a Ganesha Clay Sculpture for Ganesh Chaturthi (Ganesh Festival). It is a 10 day festival celebration at my home. With great enthusiasm I create this sculpture and decorate it. This is my 4th time making the sculpture, otherwise I used to buy it. </div><div>I paint it using simple washable, non toxic Tempera paints. This makes it eco friendly. After the festival is over, the sculpture is immersed in water. It completely dissolves and I spread the clay in our garden.</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;"><i>click on image to view larger</i></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvZ32262yQtr6uOQI1zZQt5G9OH4tzsQ0vUaYTmJB8qu_XMMoSh98TLE3rwdz5oqkjW4EsrabS9iCMUFPnu7xcdQj215i28pRz-uySCbMFgFHfnkxpzj35o1auVBe03tFd_pxLkjsEkqlk/s2048/IMG_0755.JPEG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1761" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvZ32262yQtr6uOQI1zZQt5G9OH4tzsQ0vUaYTmJB8qu_XMMoSh98TLE3rwdz5oqkjW4EsrabS9iCMUFPnu7xcdQj215i28pRz-uySCbMFgFHfnkxpzj35o1auVBe03tFd_pxLkjsEkqlk/s320/IMG_0755.JPEG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Ganesha 2020 - In the making and the clay was still wet - size about 9 inches</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvqtgArZdEY1EAgG3gGS7hdEfhFE7tRDHLwsCHmZjyJDtAF-VQUEONjZhCBr2sswncBYnogclJX0QyucNIRMD9AytVhTp1uq9OLFBelPuf4ZJlLFJDCE4kU8PXOppUuCMPRGAU-mFD-KV2/s2048/GaneshaSculpture2020.JPEG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1895" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvqtgArZdEY1EAgG3gGS7hdEfhFE7tRDHLwsCHmZjyJDtAF-VQUEONjZhCBr2sswncBYnogclJX0QyucNIRMD9AytVhTp1uq9OLFBelPuf4ZJlLFJDCE4kU8PXOppUuCMPRGAU-mFD-KV2/s320/GaneshaSculpture2020.JPEG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Ganesha 2020 - Painted and decorated - size about 9 inches</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><h3 style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #2b00fe;">Not for Sale</span></h3><div style="text-align: left;"><div>Find Original Oil Paintings, Original Watercolor Paintings, Fine art Prints and more on my Etsy Website here: </div><div><div>https://www.etsy.com/shop/preranap</div></div></div></div><br />Prerana Kulkarnihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12080551866957867338noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-809241022746500062.post-33827417392824651082020-11-07T11:01:00.004-08:002020-11-07T11:03:29.970-08:00Inner Glow - Bird of Paradise<div>Inner Glow - Bird of Paradise - Created 7/26/2020</div><div><br /></div><div>Bird of Paradise is growing all around our neighborhood and in my office complex. This is my new favorite painting, it was difficult to stay focused on it due to complexity. I am feeling so accomplished! This is a plant - shrub, in my front yard. Everyone that suggested the title on Facebook thought that these are blueberries. But these berries are not edible. This is an evergreen, drought tolerant shrub, very common in southern California. In my neighborhood, I see this plant as shrub or hedges, very common in parks, street dividers, homes etc. Around Easter time, these berries turn into beautiful start shaped small pink or white flowers. For long time I did not find the name of this plant. Its called Indian Hawthorne. Below, I have some pictures of the plant with berries and flowers.<br />
I used my own picture as a reference. The morning or evening light is very dramatic and that's usually I take pictures for painting.<br />

And now look at this gorgeous couple.. A parrot couple from India!!<br />
The male parrot has a ring around his neck. The female doesn't have the ring. In this painting the female is the top part of the painting. I liked the angle that she is bent over to get the seed. It look like its a morning light and this couple is enjoying breakfast!<br />
It is a very busy painting but I liked the beans hanging down in variety of colors. The light on the birds and the branches is simply magical - that was my inspiration to paint this complicated painting.<br />
